The Produce and Our Farmers

Every week we trek to farmers’ markets and farms across the southland, picking the freshest and most in season produce for delivery.

beachgreens cultivates relationships with our farmers and suppliers, recognizing the importance of these relationships in bringing you the best quality produce available. In a world where we are increasingly disconnected from our food, beachgreens provides this connection in a convenient way. You can trust us to bring the farm to your doorstep.

We strive for all of the produce we deliver to be grown in ways that is in harmony with Mother Nature; this can be called many different things. Some of our farmers choose to be certified organic, others are growing according to many organic, sustainable, and beyond organic practices, but for a myriad of reasons, have chosen not to get certified as organic.

To me, a good relationship with a farmer can be just as valuable as any organic certification. We value the relationship with our farmer suppliers over paperwork. I try to visit as many as the farms as possible, and have as many conversations with the farmers as possible about their growing practices. As a home farmer and gardener, I am continually learning and educating myself on the meanings of organically and sustainably grown food.

Eating Locally

Living in Southern California, we are lucky enough to have an incredible variety of local produce available to us year round. However, our seasons still dictate that the juiciest most delectable tomato comes at the end of summer, while those satisfying mysterious root vegetables will be at their best in the winter.

It has been estimated that the average American meal travels 1500 miles from farm to plate. beachgreens challenges this notion by delivering only local produce at the height of its season. I like to define local food as being produced within a leisurely day’s drive from home. Supporting a local economy and decreasing fossil fuel use are just some of the reasons for eating locally produced food—it’s just fresher and tastes better!
